Anyone who has tried their hand a CCD imaging
will testify that focusing can be a pain. The camera I am using is a
MX5 from starlight xpress. Moving to Astro Art software has been
good as amongst other reasons the focus window in AA can update much
more quickly. However moving between screen and focuser to make
changes would have been a hassle. What I have done is add a small
stepper to a standard 2" rack and pinion focuser. The stepper
is controlled from another PC via a Darlington array. Focus can be
adjusted by a couple of extra switches on the handpad or directly
from the PC. The pc also keeps a record of focus movement in
1/1000ths of an inch. Together this makes focusing pretty painless
